Air pollution: a health crisis as great as Covid-19 every year

We have seen a huge and necessary mobilisation to combat the impact of Covid-19 over recent months. Yet EVERY year in the UK alone there are up to 40,000 premature deaths due to air pollution. Or 1 in 19 deaths in UK’s largest towns and cities. It is worse in other countries.

And this is just one way that emissions and other climate change factors cause death and destruction around the world. Today. Which is only going to get worse.

But regardless of where you stand on climate change and its impact on me and mine, the direct impact of pollution on all of us is real and tangible. Now. Here. As is the positive impact of better air quality we've seen over this lockdown period. I can vouch myself for the improvement.

If for no other reason, this is why we need to demand a clean and green recovery plan.
