There's lots of cheerleaders for the gig economy, and the 'freedom' it brings. They are normally people who don't have to work in that way. The fact is it's just an opportunity for businesses to make more money by screwing their workers. And if coronavirus does hit, the choice of work or don't eat/lose your home is not a great one, as gig workers may not get sick pay.
