From slavery to prison: institutionalised racism in the US
If you haven't already, please watch 13th on Netflix: important and powerful stuff.
In the Land of the (supposedly) Free, 13th draws a direct line from slavery to prison in the US, the big business $$$ this supports, the biased laws that allow it to happen and the systemic police brutality it breeds.
It's as if nothing has changed in the 150 years since the 13th amendment abolished slavery in the States. Because the 13th included an exclusion clause for criminal acts which, while the ink was still wet, allowed for the continued subjugation of black people by introducing institutional criminalization.
